Dear Dharma Friends,

We warmly welcome you to Kunzang Gatshal Foundation for a weekend of public practice at the conclusion of our annual Krodhikali retreat. We are honored to have Dungse Garab Rinpoche offer a concise teaching on the transference of consciousness (Phowa) visualization according to the Troma Ngondro practice, followed by a Troma Tsok Offering to magnify and dedicate the merit accumulated by the more than 150 retreatants during their seven day retreat to all deities and sentient beings.

On the following day, we will perform the Mountain Smoke Offering (Riwo Sangchod), the renowned sang practice revealed by Lhatsun Namkha Jigme, followed by "Nectar of Peace,” A Concise Fire Offering associated with the Activity Ritual of the Profound Path of the Dakini (Khandro Thukthik), composed by H.H. Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche II, Jigdral Yeshe Dorje.

The public is warmly encouraged to participate in the fire puja by offering the provided substances—such as white sandalwood, flowers, silk cloth, butter, sesame seeds, alcohol, rice, barley, and white mustard seed—directly into the fire as a method of purifying obstacles and accumulating merit.

We cordially invite the families of the retreatants, students of Dungse Garab Rinpoche, those who are connected with the Dudjom Tersar mandala, and all our Dharma friends and family to Kunzang Gatshal, Always Noble Joyful Park for this public program.

Attire

Please wear appropriate attire. Dharma robes, shamtab, drangju, zen, chuba, khira, goh, polo, dress shirt and pants, blazer, or other formal clothing as appropriate for visiting a temple.
The weather in upstate New York is unpredictable, and the temperature is quite cold in the mornings and evenings, so we recommend wearing dressing in layers, and bringing a warm sweater or jacket as the temple is not heated. We anticipate the temperature to be 70°f during the day and 50°f in the evening. (The temperature in Delhi, NY is about 10°f colder than NYC.)

Parking

  • On-Site Parking: Parking is available on-site. We recommend arriving at least 45 minutes prior to the event start time to allow time for parking and settling in to the Temple.

Public Transportation

  • Trailways Bus: Daily buses run from the Port Authority in Manhattan, New York City to Delhi, NY, and Oneonta, NY.

  • Chartered Bus: Our friends at Dudjom Krodhikali Association of NYC (DKANYC) [formerly Dudjom Dharma House New York City (DDHNYC)] usually organize a chartered bus or carpool from Queens, NY, directly to Kunzang Gatshal. For more information regarding this chartered bus, please contact DKANYC/DDHNYC.

Cell Service and WiFi

  • Limited Connectivity: There is no WiFi at Kunzang Gatshal, and cell service is limited. Generally, there is 1 bar of cell service on all major carriers, enough for SMS texts and phone calls, but other apps may be slow and unreliable.

Camping and Accommodations

  • Local Accommodation: If you are looking for local accommodation we recommend staying at a hotel in nearby Delhi, NY or Oneonta, NY. There are also several bed and breakfasts, motels, and Airbnb/VRBO locations within a 30 minute area. For a list of nearby accommodations, click here: Accommodation Near Kunzang Gatshal Foundation (PDF)

  • On-Site Camping: We do not have public accommodations or a Guest House available for this event. However, the retreatants and family of retreatants are welcome to bring their own tents and camp on the land Saturday evening. We have portable bathrooms, potable water, and simple vegetarian meals during our program. Please bring your own camping gear, including a tent, sleeping bags, warm clothes, and any other necessary items. We apologize for our very basic facilities.

Health and Accessibility

  • If you are sick or have cold/respiratory symptoms, please stay home. If you must attend, please wear a mask. You are also welcome to wear a mask for any reason.

  • The terrain can be challenging, especially the hill from the parking lot to the temple and the portable restroom area. However, we have several designated cars available to shuttle guests up and down the hill.

If you cannot make it upstate to our weekend program, there will be a program in New York City the following weekend organized by Dudjom Krodhikali Association of NYC (DKANYC). Additionally, there will be a program in Toronto, Canada the weekend after the NYC Program, organized by Riwoche Tibetan Buddhist Temple of Toronto. More information can be found on their respective websites.
